Your day, from Manhattan to Los Angeles
- Before departureAn AEROAFFAIRES broker calls you back within 30 minutes to check your dog's file. For California, the document to prepare is the rabies vaccination certificate, signed and dated by a veterinarian, which the state requires for any dog over four months old. If your dog is arriving from France, entry into the United States is set out in our United States travel requirements.
- At TeterboroYou board in New Jersey, 12 miles (roughly 19 km) from Midtown Manhattan, through a private aviation terminal, with no queues. Your dog boards with you.
- During the 5h 20m flightIt stays at your feet, in the cabin. The crew is briefed on welcoming animals, and water, bowls and blankets are provided on board. Our advice on water, food and toilet breaks before the flight.
- At Van NuysYou land in the heart of the San Fernando Valley, at an airport dedicated to noncommercial air travel. Once there, a leash no longer than six feet is the rule in public places, and the beaches run by the county are closed to dogs. Our guide to Los Angeles with your dog.
Why not a scheduled flight?
Between New York and Los Angeles, Delta and American Airlines only accept a dog whose carrier fits under the seat, and no longer take the general public's pets in the hold. Alaska Airlines still accepts the hold. The details, airline by airline, are in Pet in cabin: weight limits, fees and airlines.
On our flights that limit does not apply: capacity depends on the aircraft and on how many animals are on board, and a broker approves each dog case by case. Your dog does not spend those hours apart from you in the dark and the noise of the hold.
Frequently asked questions
Can my dog fly in the cabin between New York and Los Angeles?
Yes. On our flights your dog travels in the cabin with you, at your feet, from take-off to landing. The weight limit of scheduled airlines does not apply: capacity depends on the aircraft and on how many animals are on board, and a broker approves each dog case by case.
What documents does a dog need to enter California?
For a dog travelling with its owner, with no change of ownership, the State of California requires a rabies vaccination certificate signed and dated by a veterinarian for any dog over four months old. It requires neither a health certificate nor a waiting period after vaccination, but the county or city you are going to may have its own rules. If your dog was vaccinated, in France or elsewhere, with a rabies vaccine not approved for use in California, the state's Department of Food and Agriculture says that in most cases it will have to be revaccinated: check with the county's animal services. These rules apply on every flight, private ones included.
Where does the flight leave from, and where does it land?
It leaves from Teterboro, in New Jersey, 12 miles (roughly 19 km) from Midtown Manhattan, and lands at Van Nuys, in the heart of the San Fernando Valley. Both are private aviation airports with no scheduled service: Teterboro does not accommodate publicly available scheduled air carrier operations, and Van Nuys is dedicated to noncommercial air travel.
How much is a seat from New York to Los Angeles?
€6,200 per seat on the next flight, taxes and airport charges included. One ticket covers one person and their dog: you pay for your seat, not the jet.
What happens if the flight does not reach its threshold?
The flight is cancelled and your seat is refunded in full. You are told as soon as possible, and a broker offers you an alternative date.
Does my dog need a blood test to come home to France from Los Angeles?
No. No blood test is required for a dog returning from the United States, which appear in Annex II to Implementing Regulation (EU) 2026/636, applicable since 22 April 2026. Rabies vaccination, however, remains compulsory.
